These components were removed in a custom battery build that was never used. This Orion BMS is currently programmed to LTO cells. We've confirmed that you are able to download, change, and upload the program. You could also upload your own program into it.
Confirmed present functions:
- BMS Balances
- Communicates by Can Bus 1
- No relay control, the relays were activated from outside the car
- No Multipurpose functions
- CAN Bus 2 is not functional
- No Isolation detection circuit
- No safety enable low side driver, will not work with CHAdeMO charging
It includes all the items and model numbers listed in the table below, as well as the high voltage harness, low voltage harness, and temperature sensor harness. The temperature sensor harness will NOT have temperature sensors, we had to cut them to separate them from the battery.
We have over 100 of these BMS's. You will receive the following items.
Item | Brand | Model Number |
BMS | Orion BMS 2 | O2BMS108Z |
Contactor X 2 | Gigavac | GV251BPB |
Bypass Contactor | Gigavac | P195BDA |
Bypass Resistor | Vishay | LPS300H 100R |
Current Sensor | LEM | DHAB S/124 |
Fuse | Ferraz Shawmut | A30QS250-4 |
Ferraz Shawmut Fuse: This fuse is a 250A fast acting fuse, it comes with fuse holders which isolates the fuse from ground and relieves stress form any components it could be wired to. Online Price: $130
Gigavac Contactor: This contactor is rated for 250A 1000V. This model includes auxiliary contacts for feedback of the contactor status. Contactor is rated for 1,000,000 cycles if properly activated with a bypass circuit. Online Price: $124
Gigavac Bypass Contactor and Vishay resistor: This bypass contactor and resistor is intended to be used to charge up the capacitors in the equipment you are powering. If you do not use the bypass resistor and contactor to charge up the capacitors first, it will result in an early failure of the Gigavac contactors and possibly a burnt out fuse. Online cost: Gigavac $101 Vishay $85
This kit alone consists of $564 worth of equipment, not counting the added value of the aluminum mounting tray, the shipping you would pay for each item, or the Orion BMS.
There are some functions missing which is why it is labeled with a Z at the end of the model number. A full function Orion BMS would have the model number O2BMS108.
Not everything was listed. If you have a question about a particular function, please ask and we will see if we can set up a test for it.

Good value, looks like the Isomon circuitry is permanently hardwired ON in my unit (no relay). If you want to disable it you can bend the 4 pin connector pins away from the socket on the mezzanine board. The other missing stuff, such as CAN2 and the pin 8 charge safety low-side looks like it could be re-added with some soldering if needed. I didn’t find as much missing as the description indicated. Yes, all the wiring has been hastily cut out of some kind of Actia battery pack, and is somewhat short.

Came with the temp sensors and balance/sense wires cut off – extra work and money before I could use. At least I hope it does a good job once I am done.

A very good value with lots of good parts for making a DIY EV battery pack. Orion has very good documentation as well. The only problem is you will need to come up with a heat sink for the BMS since it is missing.
